Off the coast of East Abu Dhabi, is one of Abu Dhabis largest natural islands, which is being developed by Aldar; Al Yas Island. Al Yas Island will be the only destination in the world that combines Arabian and maritime traditions with the excitement of Florida and the elegance of Monte Carlo. It will include a mixed-use tourist attraction, featuring hotels, residences, shopping malls, golf courses and equestrian facilities as well as a motor racing and Ferrari theme park, Ferrari World. Additionally, Al Yas Island will stage Abu Dhabis first F1 race in 2009.
Another major development in East Abu Dhabi is Aldars Raha Beach project. The 90 million ft2 project, set on an 11 km strip of beach at the entrance to Abu Dhabi City consisting of more than 60 high-rise towers and housing 120,000 residents. It is being built at an estimated cost of over AED 55 million ($15 million).
Other prominent developments in East Abu Dhabi include: Al Reef Villas, Capital Core (Abu Dhabis new Capital District) and Hydra Village .
East Abu Dhabi is also home to Abu Dhabi International Airport.
